Bloody First Poster Confirms 2015 Release for Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight”

Like a dieting mom and a freshly-baked cinnabon, Quentin Tarantino and his upcoming western The Hateful Eight is in a complicated relationship: there was no knowing whether he was going to carry on with the project, not until last weekend’s Comic-Con, where he confirmed he is indeed engaging commitment to the project.

The striking promo-poster, to premiere officially in Empire Magazine’s upcoming issue, teases the brand of violence in the western, if Django Unchained and his previous works are not at all taken as indication. Yet, at this point the promo’s typography is most crucial: skipping the title card, we learn that this is Taranino’s 8th film — a curious proclamation because he technically has nine; bringing up the question whether the two volumes of Kill Bill are counted as one film, or whether he has come to disclaim one of his films (presumably Death Proof, seeing his thinking of it as his “worst” film).

There is “special roadshow engagement” printed in this promo, which is exciting, more encouragingly with the fatty celluloid goodness of 70mm filmmaking promised herein. “Super CinemaScope,” it says. To its right says 2015, which confirms its official year of release — most encouraging bit of all.

The plot description, per Empire, is ahead:

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

As for casting: Bruce Dern, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, James Remar, Amber Tamblyn, Walton Goggins, and Zoe Bell are all currently in-engagement with the film’s development. A terrific cast, indeed.
