Rest is for the wicked, so as QCIFF is hushing to a close, Cinema One Originals (“C1Origs” to the hipper club) is at work building momentum in time for its opening night on November 8.
They just released their lineup for this year’s edition of the fest. Some reason(s) to excite you: a Kiyoshi Kurosawa film in the big screen. Of course the films in competition are pretty exciting too, but can we just take a moment and lament on the fact that we’ll be seeing a Kurosawa film this November? And frakkin’ Yorgos Lanthimos? And mother-frakkin’ Hou Hsiao-Hsien? Can we? CAN WE?

The foreign film program screens an incredible lineup of titles that—let me say it at the risk of being charged with lazy analogies—will wet the proverbial cinephile panties. Cinema One will also screen restorations of classic films such as Lino Brocka‘s Insiang and Marilou Diaz-Abaya‘s Karnal. The restoration of Ishmael Bernal‘s film Ikaw ay Akin will have its world premiere during the festival.
Special Presentation
A special screening of Sherad Sanchez‘s Salvage will be held during the festival. The film is a horror found-footage film following a reporter (Jessie Mendiola) lost in a haunted jungle.
