F.P.R. Dailies is a new feature which will collate news, features, and everything film-related that we think are worth sharing. It’s us wading the internet on the daily so you won’t have to. You’re welcome.
Today, we have some more casting news on Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man movie, a few exciting trailers, and, whaddayaknow, some confirmations on some of the stuff you’ve been yearning for—for years.
‘Justice League’ logo, synopsis, villain
Warner Bros. has unveiled some major details on its upcoming Justice League film, directed by Zack Snyder, and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher as the titular band of superheroes. Here’s the official synopsis:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
I’m not too hot about the logo, but I’m withholding judgment until it flashes on the big screen. Take a look:
There’s also news on which villain is going to be cast for the film. Justice League executive producer Deborah Snyder confirmed to Comicbook.com and other members of the press on Friday that Steppenwolf will indeed be the villain of Justice League. When asked if the role had been cast yet, she reluctantly said he has not but insists they are close to finalizing a deal.
Trailers, monsieur; mademoiselle?
Some trailers I’ve come across today of films I’m pretty excited about.
Based on the same-name novel written by M.J. Carey, Colm McCarthy’s The Girl With All The Gifts looks riveting stuff; I’m down. Eternity looks deathly gorgeous, and the cast is quite exciting. American Honey, meanwhile, is a film that I’ve been on the lookout for. I’ve been hearing some great stuff about it, and if the new trailer (as seen above) is any indication, the critics have got it right.
Eli Roth x Jim Carrey…making a horror movie?
I know. Pretty unusual pairing. But considering the material—a Steve Niles graphic novel called Aleister Arcane that’s equal parts humorous and harrowing—both the director and the actor’s manic sensibilities seem fitting for the project. Carrey is set to play the Aleister Green, a performer who is wrongfully put to trial (and eventually under the grave) after an incident with two children.
I’m more excited, to be honest, about Amy Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch, which also stars Carrey.
