A realistic visualization of a cinephile’s to-watch list is a queue at Starbucks during Sticker Season. It’s long. Blame it on work schedules, the dreading proximity of indie-friendly theaters. Hey, we all relate.

The newly opened Cinematheque Manila crosses off this issue of proximity to many people. It’s the Iggy to our Manileño and Manileña best friends who are now like they got ninety-nine problems but a nearby theater won’t be one, like whut. (That joke, like every one I bother to share here, sounded better in my head.)

Films old and new will screen in said theater, including Lino Brocka’s seminal classic Maynila: Sa Mga Kuko Ng Liwanag, Lav Diaz’s most recent Mula Sa Kung Ano Ang Noon, and Lamberto Avellana’s A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino.

Henry Francia’s 1968 experimental On My Way to India Consciousness, I Reached China (which I urge you all to see) is also included in this month’s lineup.
