There are no clocks in hell according to Frank Ferguson Jr.’s unnamed druggie, who we only know through his (possibly drug-induced) fits of rage and breakdowns. The dark room where this scrawny persona holes in doesn’t have clocks, either; but if need be the space looks just the part.

We find Ferguson’s gaunt character, almost subhuman in appearance, trying to resist vices, prancing in circles around the room, and chancing a certain Rona who won’t pick up his phone call. This surmises the short almost entirely: Kadiboy Belarmino’s Kyel is really just about a man locked in a small dark room. Yet this forwardness isn’t exactly hindering to the material, which prominently features drugs. The film’s central character is instrumental to whatever pursuits it tries to push through, from the wide array of perspectives it offers. One isn’t at fault to view the film as an intoxicated person’s postscript after a grim undoing, or simply, a documentation of a freakishly bony junkie on one fateful weed session.

Whatever it is, Belarmino assures the sense of breaking looms around: the savage shredding of identity, of guilt, of one’s grasp of reality. Kyel becomes a short film set at one’s exact point of irrevocable change. Even worse, it’s the kind of change that’s slow and excruciating, helplessly gliding you to descend, which I think not only speaks to drug addiction but to also a wide spectrum of other things.
