FULL LIST: Winners, Pelikultura 2017 (The CALABARZON Film Festival)

Pelikultura 2017: The CALABARZON Film Festival, held last March 6-10 in the University of the Phlippines Los Baños, awarded its film entries from filmmakers based in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. Alvin Belarmino and Noel Escondo’s Nakaw bagged eight awards at the Open Category including Best Film while Steven Paul Evangelio’s Processions bagged six for the Student Category. The short film Nakaw is set to screen at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner on May.

Pelikultura, the five-day film festival organized yearly by UPLB PelikuLAB, comprised of short film competitions, exhibitions, film workshops, and forums. This year, over 30 films were screened at the festival. Workshops were given by Babyruth Villarama (producing), Sue Prado (acting), Bagane Fiola (cinematography), Arnel Mardoquio (directing), and Lawrence Fajardo (editing). This year also saw an additional subcategory called #BuhayElbi that aimed to showcase two-minute films about life in Los Baños.
