Aliens are back in first ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ trailer

“We always knew they would come back,” declares the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence (sadly not related to the upcoming Toho-produced Godzilla Resurgence), a sequel that no one asked for but we’re getting anyway because every other movie from decades ago is either getting a sequel or being rebooted.

It’s been twenty years since the events of Independence Day, and humans have utilized alien technology to buff up its defenses against any looming attacks. There’s even a base on the moon now, and there we see a space-suited David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) and Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth) doing an impression of Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck in Armageddon. Back on earth, an older and traumatized President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) says he sees the return of the aliens in his dreams, so he’s probably the one responsible for this whole aliens-coming-back thing. Or maybe it’s Will Smith, but he’s not in this movie.
