Wes Craven’s clever postmodern-slasher Scream dwindled onto its trilogy (with the fourth film somewhat redeeming the franchise); yet the following it has cultivated is enough for a big-to-small screen transition. Thus, it is no surprise to see Ghostface returning, with MTV picking it up, perhaps to pair with their other nostalgic horror series Teen Wolf, which, it goes without saying, is instantly addictive. So if there’s hope on the horizon, it is solely that it is because that these folks seem to know what they are doing and will not butcher the already half-butchered film series.
But then things went from lukewarm to exciting, with batch after batch of casting news coming in, and now we have an entire roster of actors from The Final Destination, CW’s Arrow and SyFy’s Shark-freaking-nado! I mean, if you are going to make a TV series about teenagers obsessed with genre films, it is requisite to cast someone from Sharknado, isn’t it?

Regardless, THR is reporting a large batch of casting information about the upcoming television series.

Besides all that are given (think half-hispterish soundtrack and sugary if strangely engaging teenage-romantic arcs) and the speculation of Ghostface as a real ghost (an obvious gesture at not repeating the film series, yet rings very untrue to the material), this is basically all we have for you right now.
The pilot is to be directed by Jamie Travis (Faking It) with Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin penning the script and Jill Blotvogel (Ravenswood) show-running. No news on whether Wes Craven’s involvement goes beyond exec producer and on the show’s as-yet-unannounced air date. We’ll just have to keep you posted ’til news come.
